Marijuana, #1 U.S. Cash Crop

A study released December 18, 2006 states that marijuana is the U.S.'s biggest cash crop and promotes the drug's legalization and taxation.


The study estimates marijuana production valued at $35.8 billion which is more than corn ($23.3 billion) and wheat ($7.5 billion) put together.

"Of those charged with marijuana violations, approximately 88 percent some 696,074 Americans were charged with possession only. The remaining 90,471 individuals were charged with "sale/manufacture," a category that includes all cultivation offenses even those where the marijuana was being grown for personal or medical use. In past years, roughly 30 percent of those arrested were age 19 or younger."

Still don't see decriminalization going through any time soon. The cotton, tobacco and alcohol lobbies are too wealthy and powerful.

It doesn't matter it's medical value, economic value, or political value...

I wrote that last line because we all know the benefits...I think wealth and power will win over benefits.
