National Opt Out Day

Tomorrow is National Opt Out day for scanners and genitalia searches.
As far as I'm concerned, every day is Opt Out day!

We still have the 4th amendment in place and the current TSA protocol is in clear violation.

There is NO LAW requiring us to submit to such offensive, oppressive tactics.

Yes, it's a different world since 9/11. But, I don't remember anyone saying anything about dissolving the 4th amendment. Until we do that, we don't have to allow a search of our genitalia to leave town. If we allow fear to rule our intellect, history tells us we are on a dangerously slippery slope.

Let's not let the argument be misdirected; this is NOT about being forced to absorb radioactivity (although a valid argument), it is about privacy and our inalienable rights.

Fear does not overrule the Constitution of the United States.

Mr. Pistole, the TSA Administrator, in his US News and World Report interview said, "We want to treat each passenger with dignity and respect.".

Mr. Pistole, treating citizens with "dignity and respect" does not include the presumption of guilt, rather than innocence and it doesn't include a reach-around!

Matt Kernan provides an example of how to be respectful, not allow the TSA or police to violate your 4th Amendment rights and then be allowed to travel.

Sam Wolanyk also declined. His approach was more attention grabbing.

Stand up for yourself. Stand up for your country.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

I haven't flown since this ruling but I do plan to fly in December. I have seen on the news exactly how they conduct these pat downs and it is disturbing. While I think there must be a better way, I do have a couple of thoughts that come to mind.

One, terrorism is all about terrorizing people out of their comfort zone which is exactly what has happened. Resorting to these type of searches for safety reasons shows that terrorists have done their job.

At the same time though, I would rather be safe than sorry. However, as I said, I've not yet experienced these searches first hand, so to speak as yet. So, I'll reserve a definitive opinion until I return from my trip.

Good post.

I have no problem with people having their privates patted down if the metal detector goes off initially and then the secondary inspection wand activates at the groin. Otherwise, there is no reasonable suspicion.

You are right. The terrorists are jumping for joy right now as fearful Americans line up like (insert historical metaphor here) and hand their rights away. I prefer the safety of Constitutional Rights to the "safety" provided by the TSA utilizing these techniques.

I wish you safe travel without unwelcome touching.

First, you are absolutely correct that these procedures are abhorrent and barbaric. Buying a plane ticket is not a crime - therefore, the gov't, TSA, AND any private security company the airport decides to hire, does not have permission or cause to search me to this extent.

Secondly, these policies have turned us into what we claim to despise. 'They' have already won.

Thirdly, you are considerably more likely to die in a car accident, you are more likely to die of a chronic disease, you are more likely to commit SUICIDE, than you are to be hijacked in a plane.

I have a friend on the police force, she says that there have been 31 murders in the city this year - guess how many suicides? AT LEAST 31 A MONTH! I am trying to draw a correlation between the 'belief' we have that murders are everywhere waiting to get us - the fact is, we are more likely to harm ourselves than we are to be murdered. There are many myths about 'reality' out there. We must use reason!

Fourth, this is EXACTLY what our Founding Fathers were warning us about - when your gov't resorts to these invasive actions, it is a sign of it's inevitable decline. I know you're feeling down, I know it's tough right now, but you cannot allow this blatant abuse for the sake of convenience. We must maintain a 'civil' society. It is your duty as an American citizen, as a human being to defend the Constitution and our Human Rights - does it even mean anything to anyone anymore?

I hate to fly anyway and I haven't flown in years.

However, I can't imagine having to go through something like this.

You are correct about letting fear rule our lives. That's what terrorist's want and so far they are winning the war.

I don't have the answer but I do know this is not it!!

Thanks for dropping over Erik. Oh boy did I ever want to post the picture of the rain first. But, the story line fit with the animals first.

I am so glad you like the idea of the holiday hops. I hope you can join in on some more, down the road.

I have read about 50 post complaining about the way the TSA are conducting searches, and it is just another thing added to the growing list of problems facing Americans that have nearly lost every right and liberty that we once held dear.
It seems that every Monday there is a new reason to be outraged and concerned about the course our current administration is taking us, and we all plant ourselves in front of our keyboards and type away our anger.
Complaining is not the answer to these problems anymore.

The stories with TSA continue to pour out. I had to go through the scanner, and did so happily. I am of the opinion that we need to make sure we are safe on flights. But there is obviously a great deal of people who have other opinions.
