Flesh & Bone Erotic Show

The show was a a lot of fun. There was great art and many wonderful guests that came to share ideas, interests and dreams.
There was food, drinks, body-painted models, bullwhips and sexually charged discussions that would make a politician blush.

Special thanks to Susan Migdol for putting the show together!

Lunchtime Surprise

I was having lunch with a friend at Wildwood Art Cafe and noticed that Joan had recently brought back some new Oaxacan Day of the Dead figurines. There was one, created by Loreno, that caught my eye--styled like Sub-Commander Marcos of the Zapatistas.

I've never seen another Day of the Dead figurine fashioned after a revolutionary leader. I am certain they exist, but had not seen one before and I made a pretty big deal about that fact.

We had a nice lunch with so much laughter that our bellies hurt. After lunch I went to the restroom and when I returned I discovered that my friend had purchased this treasure for me.

It is a wonderful gift I will cherish for a long time. Thanks Austin.

Theo Jansen - Kinetic Sculpturist

Thanks to David Lyles for introducing me to the art and engineering of Kinetic Sculpturist Theo Jansen. His amazing work is takes its life's breath from the wind. Check out more of his breathtaking work here.

Click on the wind creature to view the video of his incredible creations:

I can only imagine how some of his creatures would scurry about in the winds of the Mojave.

Turning the Place Over

'Turning the Place Over' is an amazing art installation in Liverpool, England created by Richard Wilson. It is an 8 metre ovoid cut from the facade of a building in Liverpool's city centre and made to oscillate in three dimensions by attaching the facade to a giant rotator at an angle. It is in constant motion during daylight hours. The official running date of the installation is 20 June 2007 through the end of 2008.

Richard Wilson is one of Britain’s most renowned sculptors. It is evident that he draws heavily from the worlds of engineering and construction.Wilson is often recognized for his 20:50 installation at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

To see an accelerated view and to gain an understanding of how 'Turning the Place Over' is done check out the Liverpool Biennial site.
"The most daring piece of public art ever commissioned in the UK, Turning the Place Over is artist Richard Wilson’s most radical intervention into architecture to date, turning a building in Liverpool’s city centre literally inside out. One of Wilson’s very rare temporary works, Turning the Place Over colonises Cross Keys House, Moorfields, and will be launched in June 2007 and will run through until end of 2008."(Liverpool Biennial)

'Turning the Place Over' is co-commissioned by the Liverpool Culture Company and Liverpool Biennial, co-funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and The Northern Way, and facilitated by Liverpool Vision.

First Night Austin

Sunday, December 31, 2006 downtown Austin will become a stage/studio for the Austin New Year's Eve Celebration, First Night Austin. There will be art installations, performance artists, drumming, crafts, fireworks and fun for all ages to mark the passage of time with art, ritual and festivity.

Below is a video of one of my favorite parts of the evening last year (surprise, surprise): the community drum circle that lead into the firework display. I love Austin!
