The Nation's First Red Astro Turf
My experience in high school was one of a counter-culture individual (no culture selected) who attended a school where it was ALL ABOUT FOOTBALL! When I have attempted to explain how over-the-top the football emphasis was there, people have looked at me as if I were crafting a story of extremes for impact and attention.
Below is a photo of my alma mater's new pride and joy:

The nation's first red Astro Turf.
Today, I am vindicated!!!

Oh My Gosh, Oh My Gosh, Oh My Gosh!!!
I wouldn't recommend this video for children or people with heart problems.
I do not want an R1, I do not want an R1, I do not want an R1.

Murray Kyle - A Conscious Roots Groove
Today we begin our journey back to the States. I want to thank everyone who helped us along our journey. We experienced more love and generosity than we ever expected. This adventure has reawakened my sense of wonder, connection and appreciation. I will miss all of you and think of you often.
Thanks to Rio, who sent me this one, it really started our travel day off on the right note.

Madman?
This guy picked a tough costume to wear for an entire evening, but he came prepared.
Notice the straw in his beer.
Notice the straw in his beer.
I was going to write a poem to accompany this photo I took at a holiday party, but I really don't feel like exploring my darker side tonight. Feel free to write one. **Added 14 Nov.2009**
In response to my request for a poem to go with the photo above, Kendogg provided:
From angst and scorn and childhood dreams
a beggar knows what for.
Upon the throne of government
add tax for being poor.
Awake enough to feel the pain
and hatred for you all.
As dawn arrives and enslaves our lives
it's back to work once more.

Amazing Ant Architecture
This is an incredible video about the underground worlds ants create for themselves and their amazing architecture. Researchers located an abandoned ant colony and filled it with 10 tons of cement. It took three days to fill the underground megalopolis. They let it sit for about a month and then excavate it. Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks to my Dad for sending me the link to this one. He found here it at Kim Komando's video of the day site.
We will be back from Canada late tonight.

Squeaky, the Amazing Ranch Hand
Being from South Texas, I found Squeaky to be an amazing asset to this ranch owner. I wonder if more ranchers will consider utilizing hogs this way.
Thanks to KK for sending me this one. If we had a Squeaky when I was a kid, my brothers and I would have taught it to pick up and haul away rocks.

8 Year Old Guitar Phenom
When surfing for something to post that wouldn't focus on the crud, I stumbled across Calvin's blog. It's filled with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos and consumerist fun stuff, but that's not what caught my eye. It was 8 year old Yuto Miyazawa playing Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", Eric Clapton's "Crossroads", and Char's "Smoky". I just dig kids!
Thanks Calvin.

Bush Lands in Texas; Residents Urged to Leave
A good friend of mine took this screen capture this morning. I would have posted it sooner, but I had to verify it was something he found and not something someone else forwarded.
This is the article it linked to here.
Thanks to Mark G. for this submission.

Wild Weather in Iowa
This is an amazing picture I pulled off of a YahooNews page that Arlene forwarded.
A huge tornado funnel cloud touches down in Orchard, Iowa, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 9:04 p.m. The Globe Gazette and Mitchell County Press News reported that Lori Mehmen of Orchard, took the photo from outside her front door. Mehmen said the funnel cloud came near the ground and then went back up into the clouds. Besides tree and crop damage, no human injuries were reported.

Monsanto - Controlling our Food
Bethany sent me a new documentary from "Controlling Our Food". I find it is a good companion video for "The Future of Food". The description on the Google Video page:
I have been following Monsanto's activities and watching the exchange of employees between the FDA and Monsanto for over 20 years. I think that this one company is one of the greatest threats to humanity at the present time.
"On March 11 a new documentary was aired on French television - a documentary that Americans won’t ever see. The gigantic bio-tech corporation Monsanto is threatening to destroy the agricultural biodiversity which has served mankind for thousands of years."

Why Canada?
People often ask us why we want to move to Canada. Slam poet, Shane Koyczan shares many of the reasons in his poem, "We Are More". In it, I can taste the clear mountain air, hear the eagles cry, smell the fruit on the trees, see the rainbows stripe the mountains, hear the voices of those I have met and feel the Spirit of the Canadian people.
Thank you DragonSongbird, once again, for sharing beauty and inspiration.

Is My Father Becoming an Anti-War Activist?
Today is a major benchmark in the pro-peace movement. My father sent me the first pro-peace/anti-war music video he has ever sent! This is a great video to awaken patriotic pro-peace activist in the common man. It is not appropriate for children.
