Power-washing City Hall During Occupy Austin

I received a call that the Austin City Council made the decision to have the mall in front of City Hall power-washed between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The requirement was for all signage, equipment, tents, etc. be removed so that the city could clean.  Occupants were told they would be allowed to return after the cleaning.

Officers and occupiers were respectful and communicated with little confrontation throughout the process.  Occupiers were told that they should move across the street, which most complied with.

A lone occupier stays until the last moments.

The power-washing begins.
Initially, police had advised everyone that no one would be allowed on the sidewalks in front of City Hall.

After discussions with occupiers, the police advised the crowd that they could be on the sidewalk as long as they did not impede traffic.

Four occupiers refused to vacate and were arrested without incident.  But not without some good humor.

Of course, not all arrested were in such high spirits.

All in all, the actions of the occupiers and the police made me proud to live in Austin.

MedMob at Barton Springs - Memorial Day Weekend

Join us for the Memorial Day Weekend MedMob event (Sunday May 29th).

We will gather for a silent meditation on the South Hill of Barton Springs.

Sit anywhere you wish, remembering to be courteous not to block any public pathways.

Feel free to spread out so that more are able to participate in the experience.

We will gather in the center of the hill for an 11 minute sound bath at 1pm.

There is no requirement to attend the entire meditation or sound bath.

Join in and leave as you are lead.

Many arrive early to visit before the meditation.

The Intent:
  • To create an environment for people from all walks of life to come together in meditation.
  • To expose people to meditation through direct contact in locations common to all.
  • To gather as a community, sending positive intentions into the world.
Remember... There is more than one way to meditate!

Visit MedMob.org for more details on this event or to set up an event in your city.

On the Instruction of Flames

Flames cleanse and correct
Instructing unforgivingly
On balance and harmony
Creating neurological pathways

This space where time slows
Intuition expands by necessity
Flexibility, flow and subtleties
Appear where they were not

Manifestation Blossom

Meditations are what meditations are
Each attempt - something else
Soaking in the sun, one soaks into the sun
A pineal explosion of light and sound

No fears, no wants; just being
Forgiveness sweeps clean the way
And prepares for glowing thankfulness
The space in which manifestations blossom

Camper...Step One

Here's our newest collaborative project. Thanks to an amazing friend, we now own a 1969 Aristocrat Land Commander. We started taping and painting about 2 days ago. I will continue to update as the camper evolves.

Meet Ken

We met him in our travels and found him to be a delightful gent. He served in the Black Watch and has shared so much of Canada's history with me.

Okanagan Film Commission at Media Button

I have just a few minutes between study sessions and wanted to share a couple of photo illustrations from the Okanagan Film Commission's gathering at Media Button the other evening.

The first capture is Adam Scorgie, Executive producer of the award-winning documentary, "The Union".

It was wonderful to stand in the midst of this collection of creative talent. I look forward to the creative possibilities that await harvest in the Okanagan. Thanks to Jon Summerland and his talented group at the Commission and to Dave Araki and the creative powerhouse team at Media Button in Kelowna.

The second is Felix Poet (my version of reality).

Happy Anniversary, My Love

Thank you for the sunshine you have added to my life!

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me and love another,
You'll regret it all some day:

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Shooting for the Okanagan!

We re-filed our visa papers today. Being raised in South Central Texas, people often ask why I want to live in a place where you can only run around naked 3 months out of the year.

First, I have the ability to go well beyond the training available to me in the U.S.:

Then, there is the view from the home of our dear friends and sponsors. It is a beautiful place that inspires my artistic side and calms my other side. You may recognize this shot from my very first blog post:

For those of you who think this was photoshopped, I share this video taken in the same yard:

To top it off, we would have the opportunity to live with our dear friends and sponsors, the O'Briens:

Life is an amazing adventure and everything seems to point us North right now. We will miss Austin (if our visas are approved) with our entire being. Austin has been our home, close to our families, surrounded and supported by amazing friends. It is a warm, dynamic city of dreams, creativity, music, magic and possibilities. I will miss it and it's weird inhabitants so very much.

I will be returning regularly to the United States, even while I am in school. I have friends, family and clientele that demand it. Plus, I'm not allowed to work in Canada while I am studying and someone needs to pay for my extravagant lifestyle. Ha!

Art Refugee

Hiding twixt the lines of of this world and that
An art refugee searches for a place of harmony
Drawing near, one senses her peace
Wrapped in anticipation, bathed in thankfulness
Home; studied and chosen. But, will they accept her?
She waits.

Bicycle Sunrise

I did this one about a year and a half ago. I painted outside until about 4:30 a.m. while looking at the shadows thrown by the moon through my porch railings and my bicycle tires.

Aerie Home

A place not lost, nor unappreciated
Not forgotten. Fully treasured
A colorful universe manifested by eagles

A place unknown to most
A place of freedom, unity and love
A place for eagles. Aerie home

There's a spot 'tween the astral heavens
And the lake where great comfort rests
Four eagles soar and call to each other

Their sky dance; overtly joyous
Free of reality's constraints
Breathtaking to everyone

A place unknown to most
A place of freedom, unity and love
A place for eagles. Aerie home.
