Jobe - A Chronomation Short

I found a wonderful short stop motion animation to share. It is well written and the animation is quite smooth for stop motion. It's definitely not a cheery piece, but it's a good thinker's short.

Wonderful! The whole concept is so thought-provoking. Peeling away the paper to find naked, bland, wood staring back...a flattened essence of self....I would have liked seeing fire...total destruction but with the realization that with total destruction comes re-birth and renewal.....

Stratastenciling - Javan Ivey

Javan Ivey uses an animation technique he devised called "Stratastencil" by which he cuts each frame out individually and uses stop motion to create a sense of movement. The technique adds another layer while still showing the layer before it. He then uses lighting to create depth and emotion. It's an intriguing blend of hand-worked art and technology that combine to form a truly unique form of animation.



You can watch another of his videos entitled "Tunnel Kids" here. Although it is more simple than "My Paper Mind", I think it is my favorite animation of his. Both videos are completely kid - animation.

"His work reflects an understanding of the technical processes of animation, and reveals an almost obsessive attention to detail and function. Always curious about how things work, he tries to find interesting ways of integrating and creating the illusion of movement. Javan is most happy solving the simplest of problems with the most complex of creative engineering solutions in order to further the idea of animation as an art form."

Blue Man Group Lego Animation

This is a creative animation using Legos. It was created by snubbyj and took him about 30 hours. It is a very creative piece. You will appreciate his sense of humor as well as the patience it took to create this:

"Live Alone" Animated Video - Isaac & Siolo Thompson

The "Live Alone" video, written and performed by Isaac Thompson, is accompanied by an interesting animation that his sister, Siolo Thompson created. This was her very first attempt at animation. At over 3000 frames, I would say it was not only a challenging and lengthy endeavor, but a successful one.
